Alaska Air Group, Inc. (NYSE:ALK) has revealed its collaboration with climate-tech company CHOOSE, introducing initiatives aimed at empowering passengers to diminish their carbon footprint while traveling. The airline offers travelers the option to purchase sustainable aviation fuel (SAF) credits or contribute to nature-based climate projects.
Passengers have the flexibility to select either SAF credits or support certified nature-based projects in regions served by the airline, including the Doyon Native Community Forest Project, Freres Biochar, The Guatemalan Conservation Coast, and more. Alaska Air Group rewards passengers who acquire a specified quantity of SAF credits with Elite Qualifying Miles (EQMs) as part of its year-end elite status promotions.
For Alaska Air Mileage Plan members, every $100 spent on SAF credits translates to earning 500 EQMs. This exclusive offer remains valid until December 31, 2023, with a maximum cap of 5,000 EQMs that can be earned.
This initiative aligns with the airline’s commitment to environmental sustainability, focusing on reducing greenhouse gas emissions without resorting to traditional carbon offsets.
Coinciding with this environmentally conscious development, United Airlines Holdings (UAL) recently declared intentions to invest $15 million in Svante, a carbon-capture technology firm. This strategic investment marks the latest environmentally friendly venture from the United Airlines Ventures Sustainable Flight Fund.
