Biotechnology the Market to Watch: The Top Two Percent Gainers on Nasdaq Today

Biotechnology was the winner today on the Nasdaq exchange, with two biotech companies ranking as number one and two for the top percentage gainers for the day.

Neuralstem, Inc.

Neuralstem, Inc. (NASDAQ:CUR) is a biotech company involved with the development and commercialization of central nervous system disease treatments. It focuses on transplanting human neural stem cells and mainly uses small molecule drugs in its treatment approaches. It rose by 18.02% today on Nasdaq, or $0.31, closing at $2.03 compared to the previous close of $1.72. This put it as the number one percent gainer on the Nasdaq exchange for Tuesday.

Corbus Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc.

Corbus Pharmaceuticals Holdings Inc. (NASDAQ:CRBP) was the second highest percent gainer on Nasdaq today. This biotech company, which develops and commercializes drugs to help cure an array of diseases including chronic inflammatory diseases, cystic fibrosis, systemic sclerosis, and skin-predominant dermatomyositis, moved +11.97%, gaining $0.85 to close at $7.95 compared to its previous closing price of $7.10.

Some of the other top biotech percent gainers for the day included: Cytokinetics Inc. (NASDAQ:CYTK), Corvus Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:CRVS), and CRISPR Therapeutics AG (NASDAQ:CRSP).

Cytokinetics Inc. is a biotech company that specializes in the development of muscle biology-driven treatments for diseases characterized by reduced muscle function, muscle weakness, and fatigue. It ranked as number four on the Nasdaq chart, experiencing a +7.36% change.

Corvus Pharmaceuticals is a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company that develops and commercializes immuno-oncology therapies that help the immune system to fight cancer cells. It placed as number five on the Nasdaq ranking, increasing by 7.82%.

Finally, CRISPR Therapeutics is a gene-editing company. It develops CRISPR/Cas9-based therapeutics. It took the number 6 spot on the Nasdaq list, seeing a +7.20% change in its stock by the close of the market.

Put together, biotechnology swept up the wins for percent gains on Nasdaq, with seven out of the top ten positions going to a biotech company (those not mentioned being Curis, Inc. (NASDAQ:CRIS) and Citius Pharmaceuticals Inc. (NASDAQ:CTXR)). Biotech will be a market to watch this week.
