Microsoft (NASDAQ: MSFT)
has closed on the acquisition of Nuance Communications for a total of USD19.7 Billion. The action comes a year after Microsoft initially announced the agreement.
Throughout the past year, both companies were faced with challenges by antitrust investigators in the U.K and the EU, despite receiving quick sign-offs from regulators in both the U.S. and Australia. Nevertheless, amid the closure, Microsoft is now able to integrate Nuance’s conversational artificial intelligence technology into its cloud services platform.
“This powerful combination will help providers offer more affordable, effective, and accessible healthcare, and help organizations in every industry create more personalized and meaningful customer experiences,” said Scott Guthrie, executive vice president of Microsoft’s cloud and AI group.
Despite the acquisition, Mark Benjamin will maintain his role as CEO of Nuance but will now report to Microsoft’s Guthrie.
