Paramount Global (NASDAQ:PARA), in partnership with Mattel (NASDAQ:MAT) and Nickelodeon, has revealed the trailer and release date for Monster High 2, the sequel to the live-action musical inspired by the iconic Monster High franchise, which centers around the offspring of famous monsters and creatures.
Monster High 2 is set to premiere exclusively on Paramount+ in the United States on October 5th. Simultaneously, it will make its debut on Nickelodeon at 7 p.m. (ET/PT) on the same day.
For viewers in selected international markets where Paramount+ is available, the film will also become accessible later in the month on the streaming platform, with release dates for other international regions to be announced later this year.
Following the success of Monster High: The Movie, which premiered on October 6, 2022, and became the top kids and family movie on Paramount+ during its debut week, Monster High 2 is highly anticipated. The initial weekend of its premiere across various linear platforms, including Nickelodeon, Nick at Nite, Nicktoons, and TeenNick, garnered over 4 million viewers.
Upcoming Franchise Spinoffs to Drive Paramount’s Subscriber Growth
Paramount Pictures has achieved significant success by managing legendary film franchises that have left a lasting impact on popular culture and the entertainment industry. These franchises have fostered dedicated fan communities and played a pivotal role in PARA’s enduring influence.
The company’s upcoming franchise spinoffs include Star Trek Discovery 5, animated films based on Spongebob Squarepants, and Paw Patrol: The Mighty Movie. These forthcoming spinoffs are expected to contribute to subscriber growth and revenue in the coming quarters.
The Zacks Consensus Estimate for 2023 subscribers stands at 68.85 million, reflecting a year-over-year growth of 23.1%. Revenue estimates are pegged at $30.56 billion, indicating a year-over-year increase of 1.33%.
Star Trek: Discovery’s fifth and final season continues to explore the adventures of the starship Discovery, now set in the 32nd century, more than 900 years beyond the events of the original Star Trek series. The series is scheduled for release in the last quarter of the 2023 fiscal year.
PAW Patrol: The Mighty Movie, an upcoming animated superhero comedy film inspired by the popular TV series PAW Patrol, is set to premiere on September 29, 2023. It serves as a sequel to PAW Patrol: The Movie released in 2021.
Maintaining the beloved combination of animation and live-action that defines the franchise, Saving Bikini Bottom takes the charm and humor of the SpongeBob Squarepants series to new heights in this spinoff titled Saving Bikini Bottom: The Sandy Cheeks Movie, directed by Lisa Johnson. The movie is set to be released in the last quarter of the 2023 fiscal year.
Paramount’s shares have experienced a 16.7% decline year to date, while the Zacks Consumer Discretionary sector has risen by 8%. This decline is attributed to increasing competition from Disney (NYSE:DIS) and Netflix (NASDAQ:NFLX).
Netflix, a streaming industry leader, heavily invests in original content, with upcoming spinoffs like Red Notice, Witcher, and Sandman, which are expected to attract new customers.
Disney, another major player in the streaming industry, is renowned for its franchises and investments in spinoff development. Upcoming spinoffs include Ironheart, Echo, and Loki 2.
