Microsoft (NASDAQ:MSFT) has recently unveiled a strategic collaboration with Barclays (NYSE:BCS) and Mastercard (NYSE:MA) to introduce the Xbox Mastercard, a co-branded credit card targeting the United States market. This exciting partnership aims to provide enhanced value to Xbox enthusiasts, not only in the realm of gaming but also in everyday purchases.

Initially, the Xbox Mastercard was exclusively available to Xbox Insiders residing in the continental United States, Alaska, or Hawaii through the Xbox Insider Hub. Its rollout to Xbox Insiders was conducted in waves throughout the autumn season.

One notable feature of the Xbox Mastercard is its absence of an annual fee, rendering it accessible to a wide range of users. Cardholders are granted complimentary online access to their FICO Credit Score, empowering them to monitor their credit scores and receive timely alerts regarding score fluctuations.

The terms and conditions of the Xbox Mastercard dictate that the annual percentage rate may range from 20.99%, 26.99%, to 31.99%, contingent upon the outcomes of a credit assessment.

Key Features of the Xbox Mastercard Catering to Gamers

  • The card boasts an array of benefits, including ID Theft Protection, Zero Liability Protection, and Global Services for emergency assistance.
  • Cardholders gain access to exclusive experiences on Priceless.com, an offering reserved solely for Mastercard cardholders.
  • Cardholders accrue card points for their expenditures, with 3X card points awarded for eligible streaming platforms like Netflix and Disney Plus, as well as dining delivery services like Grubhub and DoorDash. A generous 5X card points are earned for eligible products at the Microsoft Store, and 1X card points for other everyday purchases. An enticing bonus of 5,000 card points awaits those making their inaugural purchase with the card.
  • New card members stand to benefit from three months of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate when they make their first purchase within 180 days of opening their account. This offer is open to both new Game Pass members and can be gifted to friends.
  • Cardholders can choose from five distinctive card designs and have the option to personalize them with their Xbox Gamertag.

Microsoft’s Expanding Xbox Brand

Microsoft has been actively expanding its Xbox brand into various products and collaborations. Notably, the company introduced the Xbox Series X mini fridge and partnered with Gucci for a limited edition $10,000 Gucci Xbox. As of now, Microsoft’s stock has witnessed a 40.9% year-to-date increase, outpacing the 39.6% rise in the Zacks Computer and Technology sector during the same period.

Sony, a major competitor of Microsoft, also offers its own PlayStation credit card featuring a points-based system that can be redeemed for games, movies, electronics, and more.
